Who would have thought that banana leaves that are usually sold freely in Indonesian markets are actually priced at a high price in Japan. In the Land of Sakura, the price of banana leaves can reach IDR 700 thousand.
A Twitter account owner @fermendkis found a list of banana leaf prices in Japan which are sold for 1980 yen or around IDR 277,153 per sheet.
He found the price of banana leaves in Japan on an online shopping site. In addition to selling banana leaves per sheet, the site also provides three variants of banana leaf sheets at different prices.
The price difference is adjusted according to the size of the banana leaves they provide.
For packages containing three banana leaves, the price is priced at around IDR 521 thousand, while the package containing 5 banana leaves is sold for around IDR 800 thousand.
Although the photo of the banana leaf price was taken in 2018, the difference in the Japanese Yen to Rupiah exchange rate still makes the price of banana leaves quite expensive for the Indonesian people.
When compared to the price of banana leaves in Indonesia, usually sellers in the market will set a price of around IDR 5,000 for 5 banana leaves.
Some sellers even allow buyers to buy them for IDR 2,000 for banana leaves as needed.
People can even pick them directly for free considering that banana trees grow well in Indonesia.
