Plywood commodities totaling 337,572 M3 loaded in 6 containers worth IDR 1.9 billion were exported to the United States. East Java Quarantine Officers inspected the plywood at the exporter’s warehouse located in Benelan Lor Village, Kabat District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province (Jatim), on Tuesday (1/10/2024).
Riska Novianti, East Java Quarantine Officer at the Ketapang Service Unit conducted a physical and health examination to determine and ensure that the plywood was healthy and free from Plant Pest Organisms (OPT), namely Lyctus bruneus and had been marked with ISPM #15.
“Lyctus bruneus is the main insect in wood including plywood and can reduce the quality of plywood. In addition, the United States requires plywood from Indonesia to be free from Lyctus bruneus,” said Riska.
The Head of East Java Quarantine, Hari Yuwono Ady, said that this was one of East Java Quarantine’s efforts to facilitate foreign trade.
“We continue to support efforts to increase exports from East Java, not only from the horticultural sector but also from the forestry sector such as processed wood, we ensure it is safe to the destination country,” Hari concluded. (*)
